Tucked into a woodland’s edge, and with a view across a valley to the mountains of Vermont is Hemlock Knowle Farm, a small, hillside horse farm located in the quintessential Vermont town of Strafford. The apartment is on the second floor with a private entrance and features high ceilings and expansive windows making it light filled and airy. Quiet, cozy and comfortable, it is charmingly furnished and its many amenities make it the perfect accommodation from which to explore Vermont. These include a well-outfitted kitchen and herb garden just outside the front door, Wi-Fi, smart TV, washer and dryer, DVDs, books and games. The apartment is solar powered and a heat pump provides heat and air conditioning. The farm’s organic garden offers seasonal vegetables. The village of South Strafford has a well-stocked general store with a bank and post office. Strafford is located to provide easy access for day-tripping throughout Vermont’s glorious natural beauty: I-91, 14 miles; I-89, 7 miles; Woodstock, 20 miles; Vermont Law School, 12 miles; and Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH, 17 miles.
Strafford and its neighboring towns in Vermont and New Hampshire have much to offer. Strafford hosts summer concerts on The Green beneath the iconic Town House built in 1799. The Justin Morrill Homestead is well worth a visit, and in winter the Strafford Nordic Center offers excellent cross-country skiing. Of special note is in mid-September when the town adjacent to Strafford hosts the famous Tunbridge World’s Fair, which has been running for over 150 years. Among the many experiences easily accessed from Strafford are Northern Stage, Opera North, Pentangle Arts, VINS, Billings Farm, Dartmouth’s Hopkins Center and Hood Museum, golf courses, artisan studios, marvelous farmers markets, farm stands and shops, and restaurants.
As the ¼ mile driveway climbs, in winter four snow tires are a must to book the apartment.
