It was celebrated architect Rolf Blakstad behind this gorgeous family villa, and few projects better showcase his talent for fusing typical island architecture with contemporary living. A subtle geometry of elegant low-rise design alludes to a quintessentially Ibiza tradition, with one level extending over bright, open spaces and around a central atrium.

An airy lounge in the middle fills with Balearic sunshine from a retractable sky-light and floor-to-ceiling windows, also allowing fresh air to freely flow around the house. A wood-burning fireplace adds instant cosiness on cooler nights. Smart 21st-century touches contrast neatly with wood-beamed ceilings, honey-hued stone and pebble-set flooring that creates a natural stone mosaic throughout.

The main living area connects in graceful symmetry to an outside terrace where floor lanterns guide you to a fantastic pool area with views. A poolside casita provides shade and seating for long, lingering lunches. Seven acres of Mediterranean gardens also brim with scented native flora, including ancient olive trees, manicured lawn and top vistas over the lush valley surrounds. The owner even produces olive oil from the grounds, which she leaves for guests.

An impressive pool zone has been artfully integrated into the surrounding gardens, ringed by pine trees and with a choice of big chill-out sofa and comfy daybeds. At 18 metres long, the swimming pool itself is generously proportioned and with low-chlorine salt-filtered water. A pool house features a well-equipped summer kitchen and gas barbecue, perfect for alfresco eating. Explore deeper into the woods and you’ll find a deck perfect for yoga or meditation.

The villa also features a big family-friendly kitchen with top-notch appliances – including two sink areas, two fridges, hot water Quooker tap and osmosis filtered drinking water tap – plus a central island and long breakfast table that looks out to the garden. You’ll find another covered dining area just outside, with views to nearby San Miguel church. It’s the perfect spot for atmospheric dinners on balmy evenings, plus there’s a tableside log-burning fireplace if you need warming. A snug cinema room also offers satellite TV, Netflix, Apple TV and XBox console, while SONOS sound system means music both in and around the house.

And when you’re ready to turn in, the villa’s six air-conditioned suites sleep up to 12 guests, each finished with an understated elegance that combines crisp white walls with knotty pine furnishings. Every room also has its own bespoke bathroom, complete with toiletries made from native herbs, as well as private access to a terrace or the gardens; the master bedroom adds a soaking tub with views to the hills.
