Dan was friendly and helpful in getting us settled in and acquainted with the area. He suggested a burger place which ended up being a culinary highlight of our trip! The house is actually split into two units which we were not aware of (I didn’t see anything in the listing indicating that it was a shared space). The remodel is cute but definitely lower-end, meaning it lacks some basic ideal things like solid bedroom and bathroom doors. The deadbolts didn’t lock on at least one entry door (not aligned right), and the bedroom has a shared laundry access connecting the two apartments which had a broken lock—Dan was quick to fix it though, which was super. The space is small and cozy, but the bed is terribly uncomfortable and the futon was just as stiff. Not a place to relax comfortably. The rocker glider would have been nice, but I’d suggest newer cushions as it had a strong smell like it came from an old house. We slept horribly but enjoyed the backyard view of the Black Hills and walking the Mickelson Trail. Another big drawback was we could hear the neighboring unit, a big disappointment, but thankfully those guests were gone the day after we arrived for our 3 night stay. I would’ve been very annoyed with loud noise from the shared unit. So be advised, the pics show a whole house, but you get a roughly remodeled shared apartment with probably no insulation in the walls, leaving risk for a noisy and uncomfortable stay. The camping chairs left for our use were falling apart, so that was annoying. However, the quiet neighborhood, gorgeous property views, and firepit access with supplied paper and wood were superb and totally worth the sleep deprivation and neighbor noise for one night. They even had coffee and filtered water on hand, a nice touch. And again, Dan was great and we enjoyed meeting him and appreciated his prompt handling of the lock issue. I’d recommend it, if you’re not a light sleeper! Even if you are, it was totally worth 3 nights of awful sleep for a nice place to land at the end of the day of exploring the gorgeous town of Custer and the Black Hills!
